California Presidential Forecast safe dem

Last Updated: Monday, July 1 at 4:08 PM EDT

Our model currently predicts that Joe Biden has a >99% chance of winning California.

California, the most populous state in the U.S., holds 54 electoral votes, the largest single prize on the Electoral College map. Despite losing the state by 29% in 2020, Donald Trump received more votes in California than in any other state. Due to large concentrations of Democratic voters in major urban areas like the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Diego, California is considered a safe blue state in presidential elections. The state has consistently voted Democratic since 1992, with margins in the double digits except in 2004 when John Kerry won by 9.95%. It is predicted to strongly favor incumbent Democrat Joe Biden in 2024, with Vice President and California native Kamala Harris as his running mate. Biden achieved the highest percentage of the vote for any candidate since Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1936, though his margin (29%) was slightly less than Hillary Clinton's 30% in 2016, making California one of only six states where Trump improved his margin from 2016.
